My partner and I recently stayed at the Mercure Gerringong Resort for our anniversary weekend, expecting a luxury experience from what is listed as a 4-star hotel. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed.
While we appreciated the thoughtful touches, like a complimentary bottle of wine to celebrate and being upgraded to the top room suite, the overall experience was far from luxurious. The room and the hotel’s restaurant both felt outdated, more in line with a basic motel than a resort.
Pros:
- Complimentary wine bottle for our anniversary
- Room upgrade to a top suite
- Staff were lovely and welcoming
Cons:
- No washer or dryer in the rooms
- The buffet breakfast was underwhelming, with bland options and a cleanliness issue – small dead bugs were found on clean plates. Especially for the higher than usual price for breakfast, much more was expected.
- The bathroom amenities were disappointing. The soap, conditioner, and shampoo were in old, inconvenient push dispensers that felt more appropriate for a shopping centre toilet than a resort.
- No additional toiletries like shower caps, sanitary bags, or ear cleaners were provided, which are expected at a 4-star hotel.
- The shower was outdated, in a bath setup, and poorly designed with a glass shield that caused water to splash all over the bathroom.
- Noise from nearby units was noticeable, suggesting poor soundproofing.
Overall, the resort lacked the elegance and modern touches expected from a 4-star property. Had it been rated as a 2 or 3-star hotel, we would have been more content, but it simply didn’t live up to the expectations for its rating or price.
We left feeling quite underwhelmed and wouldn’t recommend it to those looking for a true luxury experience.

Very well located in a beautiful part of the South Coast. The Resort has spacious and comfortable rooms, and good service. The hotel restaurant, Bella Char, serves excellent food and is especially valuable if you're an Accor ALL member (50% off the food bill).

Last night $150 motel
Tonight $450 hotel
Better view and much better service at the old rundown motel.
Reception was dreadful.
The room is in a corner beneath the stairs. Small room. No atmosphere. Hair on the bathroom sink. High step into the bath shower, which is not mentioned in the booking and not accessible to everyone in our party. Definitely rust and soap grime in the bathroom. Unclean drinkware. Not recommended. There are many nicer places to stay in Gerringong.

Stayed two nights in July 2024. Beautifully presented room, faultless service, comfortable bed, easy parking.
Decent nightly tariff despite it being school holidays, too.
Quiet, pleasant location, about 1km to amenities.
Room service menu a bit limited in both availability and choice, and it was inordinately expensive, but that’s a bit reflective of the surprisingly limited dining choices in the Gerringong/Berry area of an evening.

We were in the area to look at potential wedding venues and this hotel seemed like a great place for two nights, we enjoyed the spacious room and comfy bed as well as appreciated the peaceful outlook and location that wasn't riddled with children as it was school holidays. It is also close to necessary amenities and the beach!
