Venturing into the cosy realms of comfort food at Amaki Café, yesterday I had the pleasure of savouring Chef Lani’s vegetable and lentil soup, accompanied by a freshly toasted slice of sourdough. Over a delightful lunch shared with the café’s owner, Alan Smith, and manager, Tracy, this dish proved to be a vibrant celebration of the season’s best produce, lovingly simmered to perfection. Each spoonful of this hearty soup offers a burst of layered flavours, where the earthiness of the lentils and the freshness of the vegetables are elevated by a masterful blend of herbs and spices. The soup’s texture is rich without being overly heavy, making each bite both satisfying and invigorating. The accompanying sourdough bread, with its crisp crust and soft, airy interior, is the perfect vehicle for mopping up the delicious broth. Chef Lani’s culinary skills shine brightly through this dish, showcasing an excellent balance of flavours that beckons you back for second and third helpings. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a meal that soothes the soul as much as it pleases the palate.

Before I say anything else, I just want to say how friendly and welcoming the staff were. We had a few laughs with them and I felt right at home. We popped in for lunch. The Cafe has street seating in the sun, indoor seating and some covered seating out the back. We did the last. We ordered chicken, avocado, cheese melts with chips. Yum! We also had cappuccinos. These latter were made properly, so a second yum. As an aside, the building was apparently built in the 1890s!

Beautifully renovated space, that still pays homage to the original historic cottage. Small but high quality menu, lovely service and excellent atmosphere. A really nice place to people watch and enjoy a delicious meal. So glad we got to come here. Enjoyed the capsicum and corn fritters - best I’ve had, crispy, full of flavour and cooked through, with a great relish and fresh salad. Lovely breaky burger and great coffee.
